Update on Planning Matters at Applegate House

Residents have raised concerns regarding ongoing and proposed developments at Applegate House, Church Lane, including a recent planning application for a pond and swimming pool. The Parish Council recognises that this property has previously been subject to a number of planning applications and currently appears on the enforcement register.

The Parish Council has reviewed the current and previous applications, which include a range of planning permissions, condition discharges, and refusals. Members are aware that residents would like reassurance that all appropriate action is being taken.

While the Parish Council does not have enforcement powers, it has taken the following steps to ensure resident concerns are raised with the relevant authority:

  • The Clerk has contacted Chelmsford City Council’s Planning Department to confirm the current status of outstanding enforcement matters.
  • Members continue to monitor new applications and updates to the enforcement register.
  • Any comments submitted on planning applications reflect the Parish Council’s observation of the proposals and community concerns.

The Parish Council will continue to keep residents informed of updates on this site and other planning matters in the parish. Residents are encouraged to contact the Parish Council if they have questions or further concerns about planning applications in the area.

Should any member of public be concerned about any unauthorised development in the Parish, it should be reported using this link:  https://www.chelmsford.gov.uk/planning-and-building-control/planning-enforcement/report-a-breach-of-planning-control/report-breach-of-planning-control/

The Mayor’s Award…

A message from Chelmsford Voluntary and Community Sector…

Every day we are humbled by the willingness of people to come forward and give their time and energy to support local charities, voluntary and community activity. Volunteers are a formidable force for good which helps to make Chelmsford a great place to live.

In 2014, as part of our 20th Anniversary Celebrations, we launched Chelmsford Awards for Voluntary Service to recognise some of the many people who give time so generously for the good of others or to enable money to be raised for charity.  The Mayor of Chelmsford agreed to adopt the Award for Outstanding Voluntary Service as a ‘Mayors Award’ to raise awareness of the thousands of local people who give their time to help others by volunteering and in particular those who have made an exceptional contribution to local voluntary action in the city and its villages.

Nominations to the Mayors Award for Voluntary service were paused for two years during pandemic as the then Mayor, Cllr Deakin, worked with the CVS to deliver many, many awards in the community through our #spiritofchelmsford campaign. This saw badges, letters and certificates being presented to hundreds and hundreds of individuals and groups.

The Mayors Awards for Outstanding Voluntary Service were relaunched in 2023, and nominations are now invited in the following categories:

  • Outstanding contribution – Adult
  • Outstanding contribution – Young person
  • Outstanding contribution – Team

Nominations for 2025 are now open

Please CLICK HERE to read the guidance and make a nomination.

The closing date for nominations is 24 March 2025
