Parish Council

Parish Councils are the first tier of local government, playing a vital role in representing community interests and delivering services that meet local needs.

West Hanningfield Parish Council is made up of up to eight elected councillors and a part-time Clerk.  Councillors volunteer to be elected and thereafter serve the community without pay, working to represent the whole community fairly and without bias. There are currently six councillors in post, with two vacancies.

West Hanningfield lies to the north of Hanningfield Reservoir and has an electorate of around 920 residents.

The Council is funded by a precept — a portion of Council Tax which is set annually to enable the Parish Council to carry out its responsibilities.

Meetings are held on the second Monday of each month (excluding August), and the venue is published on the agenda. Members of the public are warmly invited to attend. While meetings follow a set format as required by law, there is an opportunity near the beginning for members of the public to speak and raise any matters of interest or concern.
